Notes from the doctor
- Triglycerides = too much sugar / carbs (the body treats them the same). Brown rice not white, cut bread, use monounsaturated oils (olive, macadamia, peanut). Worry if rising.
- Total/HDL ratio is the key modern metric. Too high → reduce sugars; if that doesn't work, reduce carbs. Worry if it's going up.
- HDL is the one you want high. Large LDL good, small LDL bad.
- Total cholesterol isn't something to worry about on its own.
- Lab: calculated LDL is unreliable when triglyceride > 3 mmol/L (yours is 4.3), so treat the LDL value with caution. High-CVD-risk LDL target is 1.8.
